The historic village center of Bernried is characterized by the open, and in some places very dense, layout of the farmsteads. The manor house and the monastery complex serve as cornerstones due to their location and scale within the village. The new community center relates to the public buildings on the one hand and reflects the open structure of the village’s development on the other. It is divided into three structures—the banquet hall with club rooms, the town hall, and the café with the caretaker’s apartment. While the hall and the town hall are situated on the site of the former Sommerkeller and define the town hall square, the café forms the spatial conclusion of the new Maibaumplatz at the foot of the Sommerkeller and faces the old village center. Thanks to the location and materials of the buildings and squares, the Sommerkeller is naturally connected to the lower square.
