Amid ten- to twenty-story residential high-rises, a pavilion with the whimsical name “Betonoase” has been built. The youth club already had that name at its old location in Berlin-Lichtenberg, just a hundred meters away. Now it has a beautiful building that lives up to that name: the first public building with warm walls made of infrared lightweight concrete, a green roof, and a large garden.
“The new building also illustrates new principles of construction: Efficiency no longer lies solely in standardization, but in the sophistication of a cohesive ensemble. The ‘Concrete Oasis’ is a prototype of an architectural solution characterized by the intelligent interplay of content, architecture, and engineering.” – Bauwelt Praxis 5.2019
