For more than 60 years, the Children’s and Youth Center has been an integral part of the lives of generations of Mariendorf residents. The opportunity to spend their free time in a meaningful and stimulating way at this center has led its users to feel a strong sense of connection to the place.
The existing building, which dates back to the 1950s, was renovated and expanded. The intact structural elements of the old building were largely preserved; the exterior walls were clad with a second layer of brick, eliminating the need for polystyrene. An elevator was also installed to ensure barrier-free access. In the summer of 2022, the youth center reopened under the name Beats 42. Not only the new name, but also the floor plan and all the resulting possibilities (such as a creative workshop for crafts and artistic work, a large activity and event space, and a music studio) were developed in collaboration with the team and the users.
