As a wholesale pharmacy, St. Martin Apotheke in Germering has consistently seen growth in sales. To accommodate this growth structurally, the existing building—which dates back to the 1960s—had to be gutted, and business operations were supported by a fully automated warehouse in an addition. A wooden “pillbox” was added as a single-story extension in the property’s garden. The largely enclosed box was connected to the existing building via a glass passageway. The high security requirements were met through design elements such as wooden slats in front of the windows and hinged shutters made of expanded metal. The expanded metal shutters also serve as sunshades.
