As a wholesale pharmacy, St. Martin Apotheke in Germering has seen steady growth in sales. To accommodate this growth structurally, the existing building—which dates back to the 1960s—had to be gutted, and operations were supported by a fully automated warehouse in an addition. A wooden “pillbox” was added as a single-story extension in the property’s garden. The largely enclosed box was connected to the existing building via a glass passageway. The high security requirements were met through design elements such as wooden slats in front of the windows and hinged shutters made of grating. The gratings also serve as sun protection.
