The subject of the project was the design of a building complex at a prominent urban location—today’s Kehrwiederspitze—incorporating an existing warehouse on the waterfront. The MediaCityPort project is intended to play a central role in the development of Hamburg’s HafenCity. The task was to develop a neighborhood that responds to the changing work and living environments of the media and communications industry. The MediaCityPort project derives its potential from the opportunity presented by the interplay of old and new structures in the Port of Hamburg. The new building complex forms a flexible ecosystem and will stand as a powerful landmark in the Port of Hamburg. It underscores both the uniqueness of the urban context and the significance of its new function, while interpreting the structural transformation of the entire area.
