Already today, 400 million people live in Chinese cities. This number was expected to double by 2010. The cities of Beijing, Shanghai, and Shenzhen are at the center of this development. As of the opening day, the exhibits had not yet been finalized. The exhibition’s concept had to be able to respond to this. The close and very dense arrangement of the exhibition walls conveys the atmospheric density of the cities on display. Due to the enormous construction activity in these regions, the traditional red is overlaid by the light blue, yellow, and pink colors of the construction fences and barrier banners. This color scheme is the sole design element that structures the exhibition.
