The historic subway station was designed by Rainer G. Rümmler and is one of the so-called “color-space stations,” which are characterized by a distinctive color scheme featuring large swaths of color. Completed in 1971, the subway station has since shown its age and exhibits numerous signs of damage; repairs and additions that do not conform to the original condition have altered its original appearance.  In the planning process, preserving and restoring the station’s distinctive qualities—in addition to repairing the damage—plays an important role.
