The historic subway station was designed by Rainer G. Rümmler and is one of the so-called “color-space stations,” which are characterized by a distinctive color scheme featuring large swaths of color. Completed in 1971, the subway station has since aged and shows numerous signs of damage; repairs and additions that do not conform to the original condition have altered its original appearance. In the planning process—in addition to repairing the damage—the preservation and restoration of the station’s distinctive qualities play an important role.
