“We want to know”—the new building will serve as a catalyst for positive social change in the neighborhood. The New Education Center houses four distinct facilities—the library, the media center, the adult education center (VHS), and the upper secondary school (SEK II). These functions are organized into thematic clusters that are reflected within the building. The compact, freestanding structure provides an ideal, clear, and robust basic form for the various usage scenarios. The library at the core, surrounded by seminar rooms, connects with the school and the administrative offices on the individual floors. Circulating balconies allow for flexible use within the building and, depending on their orientation, serve as an additional facade layer for energy generation. The new educational center positions itself as a standalone structure within Wolfsburg’s educational landscape, naturally linking the Alvar Aalto Cultural Center, the Art Museum, and the new school with the cultural institutions in the park.
